Hotel Citadel has welcomed guests from around the world to Amsterdam for over 25 years. The family-owned hotel is best known for its warm, friendly atmosphere, good service and great location.
Just like the dynamic city of Amsterdam, it was decided that Hotel Citadel was destined for bigger things and would undergo an exciting renovation. “To design a unique hotel that is truly memorable” was the vision of Maxine, Jeffrey and Stefan Hoogland. In early 2018 the transformation of Hotel Citadel into the inspiring and colourful Highlander Hotel began.

Need a table reserved at a restaurant? Our team is here to make your stay as pleasurable as possible. In addition to our extra services the hotel has been totally revamped! We describe our exciting new look as ‘Colourful with a Scottish twist’. Creative and stylish, the Highlander hotel is a mishmash of colours, patterns and design that represents the energy of Amsterdam. You can be sure that no two rooms are alike! Each colourrific room also features a super comfy king size bed, rain shower, Airplay TV and air conditioning!
What's in a name
anyway?
Hotel Citadel’s new name is the Highlander, this comes from the English translation of our surname, Hoogland. It also refers to the Scottish highlands, because of this, we introduced a fun Scottish element into the decor. Each floor features a different coloured tartan pattern and our bar has some pretty decent whisky’s. Enjoy a drink or have a sit down for chat in our lobby.
